Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists (OTs) play a vital role in mental health services, helping individuals develop the skills and confidence needed to participate in daily life, maintain independence, and improve well-being.

How Can an Occupational Therapist Help?

OTs work with individuals experiencing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodivergence, and severe mental health conditions to support them in:
✔ Daily Living Skills – Helping with routine activities like self-care, cooking, budgeting, and managing responsibilities.
✔ Emotional Well-being – Developing strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and mood.
✔ Sensory Regulation – Supporting individuals with sensory processing difficulties that impact daily life.
✔ Social & Work Skills – Enhancing confidence, communication, and ability to engage in education, work, or social situations.
✔ Routine & Structure – Creating personalised strategies to improve focus, motivation, and daily organisation.
✔ Meaningful Activities – Encouraging engagement in hobbies, interests, and therapeutic activities that promote well-being.

Who Can Benefit?

Occupational Therapy is beneficial for individuals of all ages who find mental health challenges affecting their independence, confidence, or ability to engage in everyday activities.
Our Occupational Therapists provide practical, person-centred support to help individuals build resilience and regain control over their lives.

Louisa Waite on Occupational Therapy:

People often ask more around my profession. I find this narrative most helpful in describing it:

Imagine a wall in front of you, as far to the left, as far to the right & as far high as you can see. In that wall, there’s a door & that doors locked. On the other side of that door is what makes your heart sing, what’s lights you up. This could be things like feeling confident & comfortable in your own skin, socialising, progressing towards your perfect career or confidently asserting your needs.

Some people are born lucky, they have their key to hand & can use it to walk through the door their whole life without any problems. Other people aren’t as fortunate, they’ve either lost their key or have never been able to find it to begin with & it’s my job to help them find it, to get them through that door!
