Dr. Jan Warnes, Clinical Psychologist, Trauma Therapist, Parent & Family Coach
HCPC Registered Number PYL24450
I am an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist working with children, adolescents, parents, and families. I’ve specialised in children and young people’s mental health for 19 years and as a qualified Clinical Psychologist since 2009. I offer empowered client-centered work that can support you to develop tools and techniques to achieve meaningful change aligned with your values.
I’ve worked in several different mental health settings including CAMHS and Eating Disorder Teams. Some of my key interests include working with attachment trauma within families, which includes trauma work, emotional regulation, resiliency work with children, and re-parenting work with parents. I take a holistic approach, incorporating mind, body, and soul, and utilise evidence-based theory.
I trained at Lancaster University and have done further training since including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EDMR), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), the Foundation in Family Therapy, Nonviolent Communication (NVC), Narrative Therapy and Conscious Parenting Training.
I am also a qualified coach and have worked more closely with adults over the past 2 years. I believe you have what you need to change within, and deep healing occurs with deeper self-understanding and support from others. The power and energy of working on YOU is life-changing.
I also offer group programs for building confidence and reducing anxiety and shame with Teenagers aged 13-18. I run several Conscious Parenting Programs each year for Parents who want more self-awareness and harmony in family life and are ready to break intergenerational loops and patterns of relating to themselves and their children. Please see Other Services for more information about this.
I offer therapy in Carlisle at a clinic room in the centre of town. I also offer online therapy via Zoom.

Testimonials
Father & Son Testimonial
“My son has struggled with anxiety for a number of years which really peaked as he moved to High school. We searched for what assistance was available to him and he began to work with Jan. I can honestly say it was a transformative experience for him, the wonderful happy and confident boy who became lost began to remerge as they worked together. “
“Jan was exceptional in her approach, not just with him but also us as a family so we could see how to support him through a really difficult time. Her process was not just one of addressing the issue but exploring what was underpinning this, and giving him the tools to understand and deal with these emotions not just as a teenager, but as he grows into an adult. I can’t recommend Jan enough.”
“I really valued how we as parents and Jan as the professional could be open and honest and challenge each other, it just gave me so much confidence in you and the path my son was on.”
“Fantastic, life changing experience for my child, and us as a family, and I don’t say that lightly.”
“The change in my son has been magic to see and Jan has been a huge part of that, I could never thank her enough”
Son, 13 years old
“I found working with Jan very enjoyable. It wasn’t pressured at all, and I felt I could talk to her.
Before I started working with Jan I was very anxious, I couldn’t go into a shop and buy things on my own or with Mum or Dad, now I can go by myself!
She helped me with my anxiety greatly
I would say don’t worry it’s not super serious, it’s relaxed and chilled.
Jan is really easy to talk to even when you’re worried and upset. But when I really didn’t feel like talking or wasn’t ready she was cool with that and wouldn’t push.
Things I’ve learned with Jan have made a big difference to me at school, both with friends and concentrating in lessons. ”
